Keep the whole plan together
The free six-page workbook on our sister site, Fruitful Years, was developed for dental travel. Use it to organize proposal, budget, contact and return-home questions, then ask your treating team which questions apply to your care. It is a planning record, not clinical advice or a recovery protocol.
Open the workbook and step-by-step instructionsUse an English or Spanish message to ask the clinic for details.

Start with the cédula profesional
Need help checking a dentist? Read our step-by-step credential guide, including what to do when the official lookup is unavailable. It separates registration, specialty qualifications and certification, with English and Spanish messages to copy.
Mexico’s Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) identifies cedulaprofesional.sep.gob.mx as the official Registro Nacional de Profesionistas portal for consulting professional credentials. See SEP’s announcement of the portal.
Find the official lookup: Open the Dirección General de Profesiones homepage and choose Consulta Pública (public search). It links to the registry above. The separate Profesionistas link is for professionals managing their own paperwork.
Link checked September 30, 2026. The registry itself timed out, so we could not test a search or verify an individual professional.
- Ask the clinic for the full name and cédula profesional number of the person who will actually treat you. Ask separately about any claimed specialty and its supporting credential.
- Start from the official SEP link above. Compare the available record with the name and qualification the provider supplied; save the source and date.
- If the portal is unavailable, try again later. If a result is unclear, confirm spelling, both surnames and the credential number with the provider, and use SEP’s official assistance channels. Record the check as unresolved; a failed search alone does not prove that someone lacks a credential.
- Keep the professional check separate from questions about the facility, the proposed work and follow-up. A matching entry alone cannot establish that a treatment is suitable for you.
Check the facility separately
Ask for the facility’s legal name and address, and which authorizations apply to the services proposed. Request the relevant identifiers and confirm them with COFEPRIS or the appropriate state authority. Requirements depend on the services: a professional cédula is not a facility authorization. COFEPRIS provides separate information on operating notices and the responsible health professional and health-service licences. Registration alone does not establish quality or suitability.
Useful Spanish terms
| Term | Meaning for your questions |
|---|---|
| Cédula profesional | Professional credential number to request and check. |
| Nombre completo | Full name; ask for every surname shown on the credential. |
| Especialidad | Specialty; ask which specific credential supports the claim. |
| Presupuesto por escrito | Written estimate; ask what is included and excluded. |
Ask the clinic for a complete written answer
- Who performs each part of the work, and at which exact address?
- What remains provisional until the examination? How are changes explained, priced and agreed?
- What does the quote include? Mark unmentioned items “not answered.”
- How many visits or trips does the provider anticipate? Who confirms dates before you make travel commitments?
- What records will you receive and in what language?
- Who answers after-hours concerns? What are the written follow-up, cancellation and refund arrangements?

Plan the actual journey
A border crossing, a flight to a major city and a trip from an existing home in Mexico involve different arrangements. Use the clinic’s exact address and your own itinerary rather than assuming that a destination name describes the whole trip.
- Confirm current entry requirements and travel advice for your nationality and route.
- Ask the accommodation about stairs, lifts, access and flexible extensions. Read Cory Lee’s questions about room measurements, vehicles and written accessibility confirmations. His examples come from Cancún and Cozumel trips; confirm arrangements for your own destination.
- Confirm local transfers, companion arrangements and the cost of an additional trip. Our sister site Fruitful Years has questions for arranging help after treatment, including a backup if your helper cannot stay.
- For a contributor’s description of nursing arrangements in Guanajuato, read CENEG’s questions about access, support and handover. Confirm the care plan and service scope directly; this interview is not a provider recommendation.
- For a supplier’s description of temporary equipment rentals in Mérida, read Andrea Chi Ramírez’s checks for room access, delivery and support. Confirm fit with the treating professional and terms with the supplier.
- Planning a medical consultation in San Miguel de Allende? Read MISMA’s questions about your history, the appointment and agreed follow-up. Confirm the clinician, location and service scope directly; this is a contributor’s account, not a provider recommendation.
- Ask the treating clinician to confirm travel timing; a travel itinerary is not medical clearance.
For Canadian travellers, consult the Government of Canada’s Mexico advice. U.S. travellers can use the U.S. Department of State’s Mexico information. Check the current official advice close to departure.
Confirm the room, transport and help together
Use the exact treatment address and appointment plan when asking for a room or transfer. Confirm doorway and lift access, bathroom layout, vehicle entry, who helps with luggage and whether an extension or changed pickup can be arranged. A listing marked accessible is not a confirmation of your particular needs.
Ask your treating team what assistance you may need, then confirm who will provide it, their service scope, hours, fees and backup. Agree on a secure records handover and follow-up contact before returning home. Keep sightseeing flexible and subject to your clinician’s advice.
Keep visitor planning separate from resident healthcare
This page is for a planned treatment trip. It does not establish eligibility for Mexican public healthcare, resident insurance or reimbursement. Ask the relevant insurer or programme about your own status and the specific treatment.
Next step: list what is still unknown
Compare two written proposals and keep unresolved items visible in the Fruitful Years planning resource. If you are also researching Costa Rica, use our Costa Rica dental-travel guide.
